PROMOTE YOUR BREED AND ADVANCE YOUR HERD
John Widdowson, Sandpoint Cattle Co., knows it takes more
than hype to sell cattle. The Lodgepole, Neb., cattleman and
his wife, Laurie, sell approximately 200 bulls at auction
each year and an additional 150-200 through private treaty.

GOOD HERD HEALTH PROGRAM CAN PREVENT CALF SCOURS
As we have discussed many times, research and practice has
shown the link between health, nutrition and management.
This is especially true in young calves, especially those
born in the winter and spring during periods of cold and wet
weather.

SPECIAL HEIFER SALES ADD VALUE TO REPLACEMENTS
As markets have evolved, it has changed the face of the beef
industry. In the early years it was almost sacrilegious to
purchase replacement females from the so-called traders in
the industry. After all the first question was “If they’re
so good why didn’t you keep them yourself?”

TAKE OPPORTUNITIES TO BOOST REPRODUCTIVE PERFORMANCE
There is one absolute fact that is central to the cow/calf
sector of the beef industry. In order for an operation to
“work” you have to get cows bred and get them bred
efficiently.

DELIVERY OF CRITICAL TRACE ELEMENTS TO CATTLE
Over the last few years a new method of providing supplemental
nutrients, specifically certain trace elements, has emerged.
Although the concept itself is not new, the product and
results are showing new promise in an area where complications
abound.
