THE CATTLEMAN’S GUIDE TO PROBLEM SOLVING
There is absolutely no place where Murphy’s Law is more
applicable than on the farm or ranch. The old saying of
“what can go wrong, will go wrong” comes true on farms and
ranches around the world on a daily basis.

STAKES HIGH IN FIGHT AGAINST THE CATTLE FEVER TICK
PEST COULD SPREAD COAST-TO-COAST Livestock health officials

formerly fever tick free areas of five counties along the
Texas-Mexico border.

CONSUMERS SAY TENDERNESS AND TASTE ARE IMPORTANT
Consumers tell us that tenderness and taste are two of the
most important attributes when they are evaluating their
beef eating experience.

HIGH STAKES FARE
“Anyone who says winning doesn’t matter is either an idiot
or a liar, or both,” seethed Aunt Pinky, throwing her
spatula across her spotless kitchen with such force that it
would surely have shattered her window if it hadn’t hit
Hooter first.

PREG CHECKING VIA BLOOD TEST IS GAINING POPULARITY
Modern technology and new techniques in reproduction are
making some aspects of cattle production easier. One
innovation that is gaining popularity is pregnancy checking
via blood samples.

TOUGH STEAKS BEGIN AT THE RANCH
During the past 10 years, studies at universities have
looked at the correlation between “wild” temperamental cattle
and poor performance — less feed efficiency at the feedlot,
poor carcass quality (less tenderness, more dark cutters),

RESEARCH SHOWS FLAVOR AS IMPORTANT AS TENDERNESS
There’s been a lot of talk about tenderness in the beef
industry lately. Tenderness markers have been identified and
bulls are marketed with much fanfare surrounding this single
trait. So tenderness must be king with the consumer, right?

HUNTIN’ DAYLIGHT — DROUGHT WONDERMENTS
There are no perfect answers in an extreme drought,
unfortunately. There’s plenty of need, though, for speed,
clear-headedness and the guts to make decisions.

OFFSET POTENTIAL PROBLEMS BY KNOWING AND PLANNING
Solving problems – seems like we all spend a lot of our time
in this pursuit. There have been countless books written on
the subject.

IT’S THE PITTS — SIGNS OF THE TIMES
Here are ten signs that people in this country have too
much money.

“GET OUT OF THE BOX” TO PAINT PROFIT PICTURE
Creative concepts are often left to artists, sculptors or
for some television aficionados “Queer Eye for the Straight
Guy.” However, when cattlemen go to work on their own
canvas, creativity takes on a whole new meaning.

CRYPTOSPORIDIOSIS APPEARING MORE IN BEEF HERDS
Cryptosporidiosis is a disease caused by a protozoan,
creating diarrhea in young calves. Originally a problem in
dairy cattle, this problem is now appearing with increasing
frequency in beef herds.

RUN CATTLE RANCHES AS A BUSINESS TO AVOID IRS SCRUTINY
In hobby loss audits, the IRS sometimes views various types
of ranching activities as a means of generating tax losses,
rather than as a profit-oriented venture.

ADVERTISING AND PROMOTION ARE KEY TO SUCCESSFUL MARKETING
The success or failure of your marketing efforts depend
greatly on your ability to communicate to customers and
potential clients about yourself, your breeding program and
when and where your sale will be taking place.

C Bar C Ranch was purchased by A.E. Wease and Charles Clark
in January 1951, and in one year, the farm was rebuilt into
one of the most attractive in the area. The original land,
located in DeSoto, Missouri, had 211 acres, and raised
Hereford cattle, pigs and hogs. Currently, C Bar C Ranch is
owned by Alan Clark (son of Charles, grandson of A.E. Wease)
and his wife Sherry, and covers 120 acres, where they raise
registered Santa Gertrudis cattle. Their website reflects
the Clark’s commitment to family and raising quality Santa
Gertrudis cattle. Congratulations to C Bar C Ranch on a job
well done.
