HAPPY EASTER! SEND AN EASTER GREETING CARD!

their day. Just takes a minute and they are free.

SLICK BUNK MANAGEMENT REDUCES WASTED FEED
Sometimes it’s not what the cattle eat, but how they’re fed
that makes all the difference.

THE PIG SITTER
“Just watch her.” Those three little words should strike
fear in the hearts of any self-respecting livestock producer
when spoken by the neighbor who is seeking help on their way
out of town.

MANY FACTORS CAN CAUSE PREGNANCY LOSSES IN HERD
After a cow or heifer is bred, she should calve about nine
months plus one week later (283 days, on average). But
sometimes accidents of gestation terminate pregnancy early,
or other factors (disease or toxins) kill the developing
calf.

TAKE A PROACTIVE STANCE TO PREVENT BLOAT
About this time each year my phone starts ringing with
producers complaining of bloat problems. In some cases the
producer is faced with an isolated case or two. In other
cases the effect is disastrous with many cattle being
affected.

PRODUCERS APPLAUD EFFORTS ON SUPERFUND CLARIFICATION
U.S. cattle producers are applauding the introduction of
legislation supported by 66 members of Congress, to clarify
that livestock manure is not a hazardous substance under
Superfund laws.

HAY SHORTAGE IMPACTS PRODUCERS’ DECISIONS
Livestock producers saw it coming, but the hay shortage is
forcing some tough decisions that may have long-term
repercussions on the health, performance and profitability
of their animals.

COWBOY COURAGE
The job of a ring man isn’t for sissies. I’m not talking
about those guys who wear silk ties, eat free barbecue every
day and stand outside the ring taking bids at purebred
sales. I’m referring to those brave souls who stand INSIDE
the ring at your local auction market.

COMBAT HIGH FEED COSTS BY UTILIZING FAT IN SUPPLEMENTS
As every cattle producer is painfully aware, feed costs have
continued to escalate as grain supplies, especially corn are
drawn upon to produce ethanol as a supplement to fossil
fuels.

U.S. RED MEAT EXPORTS REMAIN STRONG WORLDWIDE
U.S. red meat exports posted gains through November 2006
compared to the same time period in 2005.

PARASITES PRESENT BIG PROBLEM FOR PRODUCERS
Parasites may be little, but they can cause big problems
for beef producers.

cattletoday.com/archive/2007/March/CT885.shtml

BEST WAY TO COPE WITH HIGH CORN PRICES IS EFFICIENCY
According to recent reports, current corn ending stocks are
at their second lowest level in 45 years. Higher corn prices
have had an immediate and major impact on feeder cattle
prices. There is speculation that we’re in this for the long
haul; in other words, we can expect feed costs to be at a
higher plateau for years to come.

MANAGE SOIL FOR FERTILITY IN PASTURES
When hay is removed from a hayfield, it makes sense to think
that a substantial amount of nutrients are being carted off
in each bale. However, when cattle graze in a pasture, it is
reasonable to expect that most of those nutrients are
recycled back to the pasture.

MINERAL INTAKE CRITICAL FOR REPRODUCTION
The old saying goes “if you don’t get them bred, you’re not
going to accomplish much.” Nutrition’s effect on the brood
cow can’t be underestimated.

IMPROVE A.I. AND ESTRUS SYNCHRONIZATION RESULTS
Looking for a way to improve results of your artificial
insemination program? Then you may want to evaluate –
and then incorporate — one of the three following heat
synchronization systems that animal scientists have
developed in recent years.
